»Digitale Botschafter«: Neue Pflichten für Freimaurer, Facebook & Co.?

Hate Speech, Mobbing und mehr. Während das Netz zum Schaukampfplatz verkommt, fragt sich die Vereinigte Großloge von England, was wohl ein freimaurerischer Umgang mit sozialen Medien sein könnte. Die ›Mutter aller Großlogen‹ hat dazu jetzt eine Erklärung veröffentlicht. Das meldet der US-Freimaurer Chris Hodapp (u. a. Autor von »Freemasons for dummies«) in seinem Blog.

Die sog. »Social Media Policy« der »United Grand Lodge of England« (UGLE) enthält zwar viele Ratschläge, die selbstverständlich sein sollten. Aber wenn’s denn so wäre, gäb’s jetzt wohl keine solche Erklärung. ;) Daher hier für alle ein grober Überblick dieser, na nennen wir’s mal in Anlehnung an die »Alten Pflichten« (»Old Charges«) »New Charges« bzw. »Masonic Netiquette«:

Social Media Policy

Die Einleitung macht zunächst die Bedeutung sozialer Netzwerke deutlich. So groß die Chancen (auch für die Freimaurerei) seien, so vorsichtig solle man als Freimaurer im Umgang mit sozialen Medien sein. Speziell Freimaurer, die auch als solche in der Öffentlichkeit stünden, seien zwangsläufig auch immer eine Art »digitale Botschafter der Freimaurerei«. Und deshalb sollten sie sich ihrer besonderen Verantwortung stets bewusst sein – selbst dann, wenn sie nur vermeintlich Privates posten würden. Immerhin könnten Zitate leicht aus dem Zusammenhang gerissen und womöglich von anderen als repräsentative freimaurerische Ansicht dargestellt werden.

Es folgt eine Liste der freimaurerischen ›Dos and Don’ts‹ (z. B. nichts Illegales zu verlinken, nichts zu posten, was andere diffamieren könnte, auch heute noch keine der traditionell geheim gehaltenen »Zeichen, Griffe und Worte« öffentlich zu diskutieren, niemals andere ohne deren Einwilligung als Freimaurer zu outen usw.).

So weit, so gut.

»Digitale Botschafter«

Besonders interessant finde ich aber, dass die UGLE – trotz aller aufgezeigten Risiken – es sogar als eine Art »freimaurerische Pflicht« bezeichnet, sich online als »digitaler Botschafter der Freimaurerei« zu engagieren.

Eine durchaus progressive Sicht. Sie geht mir aber eigentlich noch nicht weit genug. Ich würde mir von der Social Media Policy sogar etwas mehr wünschen, nämlich:

Dass Freimaurer ermuntert werden, sich nicht nur als digitale Botschafter der Freimaurerei zu begreifen, sondern sich generell im Netz als ›digitale Diplomaten‹ einzubringen. Vermittelnd, mäßigend, moderierend. So, wie wir es ja eigentlich im Miteinander verschiedenster Menschen in unseren Logen einüben. Diplomaten kann es im Moment einfach nicht genug geben. Und zwar nicht nur in der virtuellen Welt.
